We are about as Mom & Pop shop as they come only think younger, much better looking and with iPads; a couple madly in love with each other with a few kids, the dog, the house with a white picket fence and one crazy obsession with good food. Even the youngest of the kids get involved in the making of our family meals getting sent out to harvest fresh herbs & vegetables from the garden or finding ripe lemons and limes from the backyard trees. Our daughter appreciates freshly baked, artisan bread like she’s a local Parisian teenager raised on such goodness.
Our son licks the balsamic & olive oil off his plate after eating tomatoes picked straight from the backyard garden. We dare to think what our youngest will be capable of after growing up on pureed farmers market carrot & ginger homemade baby food (OK, it was the soup of the day at the restaurant but in this family, that means homemade.) Each menu item has been thoughtfully created & inspired by our family’s favorite ingredients. We like to think that by feeding the community with the same values that we feed our own family, we’ve created the best little sandwich shop in our backyard of Old Town Goleta.
Steven has had a lifelong love affair with food, professionally cooking for over 28 years. He cooked through some of London’s finest restaurants before settling in Santa Barbara and opening the original award-winning Sage & Onion in 1999, proudly serving fine dining cuisine until he closed its doors in 2007. After getting married & having 2 more kids, the food industry called the family back creating Sage & Onion Café to be a hot breakfast and lunch spot with a take-away dinner option in Santa Barbara & Goleta. ”
